How to resolve Wake On Lan Issue in Windows 10

Wake On Lan is a very important feature for a system admin. Wake On Lan lets you have On-demand access to files and resources on a network where you don’t have to keep a computer turned all the while. Helps you reduce the energy efficiency, you will see a reduction in your utility bills since you don’t have to keep your system on all the time, and lastly a great tool for managing a computer remotely, so you can access a computer that might be across the room or upstairs but it should on the local network because doesn’t work outside the network.

Step 1: Enable Wake On Lan on BIOS

Go to your PC BIOS Setting and make sure Wake On Lan is enabled. By default Wake On Lan is disabled on all the computers it should be enabled manually on each PC.

Step 3: Disable Fast Startup

This is the most important setting. By Default Windows 10 enable Fast Startup on all devices. The Fast Startup is designed to help your computer startup faster after you shut down your computer. When you press shut down your computer, your computer actually enters to a hibernation state instead of a full shutdown, this helps your PC to boot up faster. This fast startup feature only available in Windows 10. You must disable it by following the below steps:

  1. Press WinKey + R and type powercfg.cpl and enter

  2. Open the Choose what hte power button does In the left side corner

  3. Click the Change seetins that are currently unavailable

  4. Now untick the Turn on fast startup (recommended) and click save changes

That’s it. You have done all the required settings now shutdown your PC and trigger the Wake On Lane to make sure it’s working. If you are having any issue during these steps feel free to let us know in the comment sections.
